The 02 arena is not only a great concert venue but has lots of other facilities, such a variety of different restaurants, bars, night clubs, coffee shops and its own event space which can be hired out for anything by anyone. The 02 arena concert venue has got a capacity of 20,000 and has 548 toilets to save the long queues. It has had top performers from all over the world perform there and not only does it make a good concert venue but can be changed into a sports arena within a couple hours. The 02 arena is truly spectacular.
The O2 is the perfect place to go out and have fun with your friends. There are lots of restaurants such as Rodizio Rico, Pizza Express, Frankie& Benny's and Nando's, so if you fancy just going out to eat there are great places to choose from. There are also clubs such as the Inc club and Thai Silk, which is a restaurant/ club. There is a VUE cinema, which has lots of screens showing all the latest films and where you buy yummy treats like Ben& Jerry's ice cream or popcorn. Best of all the O2 has two great venues to see your favourite artists, which are the O2 arena and Indigo2. The O2 arena holds about 20,000 people, which is a great idea in theory, because it means more people can see a concert at the same time. However, you only really benefit if you're sitting relatively close to the stage as you can't see much the higher you sit. Indigo2 is the place to go for very intimate shows, but is quite spacious so you won't feel too packed in.
This is an awesome place to go to a concert. (Make sure you're not seated in the gallery upper level seats if you suffer from vertigo!) Many of the standard seats are better than the hospitality boxes. The sound system is excellent in the arena and I've already seen several concerts. There is a fantastic mall of restaurants catering for evey taste possible from around the world. When there is an event on please go early if you want to eat as ALL of the restaurants get very busy. Transportation links are great with bus and tube on the doorstep, you can also get to the venue via the Thames Clipper water transport service as a fresh alternative. The O2 has a great Vue cinema with one of the largest screens in UK/Europe. Try the IndigO2 club for a different experience with many new, up and coming stars as well as some very well known acts for a more personal up close experience. The O2, you will not be disappointed!
I attended the first night, and it was good, the final 20 mins made it worthwhile, so I went again, and again it was extremely good, then I went a third time, ( thanks to Ebay ), it was possibly the best night that could ever be had, 20 years have passed since I saw the lovesexy tour. I was sat next to one half of the pet shop boys, got a good look at 'Neil Tenants' dental work!, yep his mouth was wide open, it nearly hit the floor as prince came up through the middle of the stage, wearing a black wide brimed hat, tourquise frilly and ruffled shirt and black bell bottom trousers, all of this was acompanied by loads of white smoke, oh and princes hit 'Purple Rain', 'Neil Tenant' could'nt believe what he was seeing!, and yep, it was that good, 'But', the show on the 13th sept 07 was even better, forget 'Elton Johns' singalong that night, elton johns face was a picture when 'Prince', played his anderson guitar!, what a night!, you bet, 22.000 people stood for 2hrs.30mins plus, why!, because it was the only way of repaying 'Prince' for a very special night, 'Was a good night on the cards', erm only just, as 'Prince' stuck with that old anderson for most of the night, will I ever see better than what I saw that night!, 'Nope not possible', to end, the fun time was the 'Aftershow', the music was'nt what you'd expect, not very princified, but his antics were worth the entrace fee, he was running around laughing his head off at one point while enjoying himself , what was going on!, he proceeded to whip the band with his scarf, so was it a night to remember, you bet!.,
Prince@02 Stadium - August 2007My name is Prince and I am funky, so said the pint-sized purple one many years ago and although he is fast approaching the big five-o, the funk most definitely remains. Currently fulfilling an exhausting 21-night residency at Londons O2 (formerly the Millennium Dome), Princes return has seen fans flocking to the Docklands from across the UK. Although a diva of sorts, the mini-legend from Minneapolis has forgone charging the exorbitant ticket prices many performers believe acceptable (think Streisands recent tour) and is offering gig admission for the not-so-princely sum of £31.21. Plus this cost includes his new album completely free! Does this mans generosity know no bounds? Well, with a symbol-shaped centre stage oh yes, the same symbol Prince once changed his name to show-goers can enjoy an amazingly decent view. And this view includes his two identikit leggy dancers whose boundless energy frankly left me exhausted just watching. Twinz as they are aptly named gyrate their way through the entire show with frantic pace while shimmying up to the boss, who, allegedly, they are both currently dallying with. Rumour also has it that Prince and posse had rehearsed a staggering 130 songs for this tour, which is hardly surprising bearing in mind his 30 odd years making music and with almost 40 albums under his belt. In fact, once the show gets going, many of the old classics come out to play, including Cream, Kiss and the ridiculously good Lets Go Crazy, which hasnt aged badly at all much like the funk/rock/ soul machine himself. Prince is a mesmerizing performer and pretty perfect with the mic, but his unpredictably can be frustrating at times for the crowd, as he wavers from new to old, own song to cover and even instrumental. That said, there are a few fab covers thrown into the mix and when the song is not from his own repertoire, Princes twist of originally is firmly stamped on each and every one. Watching Prince and this songstress side-kick, the impressive Shelby J, covering Gnarls Barkleys Crazy is an unexpected treat and pure electric to boot. But Princes first class rendition of one of his finest compositions ever - the haunting and powerful ballad Nothing Compares 2u is sheer brilliance and worth the ticket price alone. When the purple presence will return to our shores, nobody knows, so for fans of the funk god, catch him while you can.
