Formerly Medicine Bar
At the mere mention of East Village many would believe this venue to be home to the fluorescent adolescents, neon-shaking, shape-shifting, ‘ave it large merrymakers, but as our barmy Amy Winehouse would say, ‘no, no, no’. You couldn’t be more wrong. Meshing jubilant revellers, fine diners and savvy sippers, East Village is not just a prominent fixture on the East End clubbing scene, but a plush-sized bar and a dining zone too, zapped with the name The Deco Lounge for non-afterhours shenanigans.
As an eatery you will find your gastro pub delights here, from Grilled Pork and Leek Sausages with Mustard Mash and Red Wine Gravy to burger munching and their signature roast dishes. Though their menu is ample, we finally opted for their Flat Mushroom Rarebit with Walnut Salad on Toasted Bread (as starter) alongside, Beef and Guinness Pie served with Mash and their Creamy Asparagus and Wild Mushroom Pie with Chips as main courses.
Our Mushroom Rarebit was a tangy concoction - toppled with cheese and paired graciously with flavoursome Walnut Salad. Our Beef and Guinness Pie was a meaty deluxe, pampered with fine slabs of beef - proving to be ferociously salivating on the palate. And their Creamy Asparagus and Wild Mushroom Pie was the perfect winter warmer, with its velvety texture and racy ingredients making the course a biting repast. With our feasting selection coupled with a bottle of Argentinean Malbec and their recommended, East Village, a bourbon medley - their variation could easily spur on more mixtures, but we opposed (thankfully).
With its themed décor - a modest but showy platform of intoxicating essentials, i.e. dim-light settings, murky interiors matched with a la mode furnishing … and lest not forget their spangly flamingo statuette - East Village/ The Deco Lounge is the ideal combo – eat, drink and leap...let’s face it , it’s not about having ‘just the one’ here…
This gorgeous upscale bar in Shoreditch my have been what the area needed. The venue itself is gorgeous. Beautifully remastered from top to bottom, East Village looks classy and is classy. Drinking is not a problem here since the main bar stretches the length of the floor. Because of the size of the bar, service is quick and efficient, and the choice of drinks is easy to see with the help of the illuminated shelves. The atmosphere is one of high class. Be sure to dress in impressive attire and interact with the image conscious. The music played ranges primarily from techno- disco. The downstairs room is a thumping ground while upstairs has elements of vintage disco.
