Brilliant Kids is a great concept; with the vast number of families in and around Kensal Rise and Queens Park crying out for places that fulfill multiple functions - entertaining the kids, providing the adults with a haven for coffee and papers, and where you can grab a meal. This place should in theory be, like the name suggests, brilliant. Unfortunately it isn't.
There is a lot going for Brilliant Kids, good location, great menu of children's activities (you can sign the kids up for a number of activities from a movie of a Saturday morning to supervised art classes afterschool), and homecooked food. However it is also a little cramped, grossly overpriced, full of people who for some reason think that everyone in the vicinity should be interested in their (invariably dull) conversation, and the food really isn't very good.
There is enough going for the place to recommend a visit. Stick to a drink and the newspapers whilst the children get entertained.

The cafe and art centre next door are pretty basic and cramped, and clientele of the 'yummy mummy'type. Nice garden at the back though.
As the name implies this is a brilliant cafe. Excellent, and I can't emphasise this enough, home-made food. Healthy and using fresh produce, the daily menu is a treat. We need more places like these in the area. the staff are also helpful and knowledgeable and there is something for everyone (kids, parents, students, people who work in the area). It's so refreshing to be able to get a good cup of coffee at a reasonable price (and to choose either a small or regular). There are so many activities for kids and the paper is always available for those who want some 'time out'. Absolutely recommend this cafe.
Provides excellent birthday parties, based on art cativities. My child highly enjoyed it and wants her next bday there.
The food is OK but very expensive. I would not recommend the hot chocolate, as it is very watery. The owner can be quite rude, making one feel very unwelcome. Overall not worth the effort!
