Top 5 Breakfasts in Brixton and Clapham

Titleshot of Top 5 Breakfasts in Brixton and Clapham
By: Catherine Berry, MyVillage

There’s no shortage of choice when it comes to finding somewhere for breakfast in Clapham and Brixton. From greasy spoons to swanky delis, there’s something for every appetite and wallet. Here are five of the best...

Esca
Esca’s window lures in many a passer-by with its amazing display of cakes and pastries. Step inside and you’ll be greeted by an equally impressive array of fresh salads and sandwiches, as well as ceiling high shelves packed with posh edibles. Sharpen your elbows for a seat at one of the communal tables and enjoy smoked salmon and scrambled eggs, muesli with fruit and yogurt, or a bagel from the breakfast menu, all served until 11.30.

Macaron
Add a little je ne sais quoi to your weekend with breakfast at Macaron, a quaint little patisserie and cafe serving authentic French goodies just off Clapham Common. Choose from buttery croissants, fresh baguettes and croque monsieurs served on pretty china plates, washed down with orange juice or a cafe au lait. Arrive early to bag one of the tables outside and watch the world go by - magnifique.

Opus
Opus stands out amongst its neighbouring corner shops and builders’ merchants on Acre Lane. Join the locals who come here for great cakes, toasted sandwiches and extra thick hot chocolate, all served in the quirky modern interior with wireless internet access and a good selection of newspapers. Head down on a Saturday morning to make the most of the weekly farmers’ market that’s held outside.

Lounge
Lounge is a good place to do just that and the chilled tunes and relaxed vibe make it popular with a trendy Brixton crowd. Sort out your hangover with a range of cooked breakfasts, burgers and paninis and rehydrate with freshly squeezed fruit juices. The licensed bar gives you the option of a liquid brunch, or just stick to the excellent frothy cappuccinos.

Brockwell Park Cafe
It’s not the food that makes this a great spot for breakfast but the location. Climb to the top of the hill in Brockwell Park to find Brockwell Hall, a grand Georgian house with a ground floor cafe that has served park goers since 1892. Battle through the buggies to grab a cup of tea and a sandwich and then head outside to admire the landmark-studded view across London.
