Steamy thoughts are never too far from our minds-now find out which British cities are the steamiest. A nationwide survey has today revealed the British cities where people indulge most in sexual fantasies, and reveals that almost eight million women are regularly having saucy thoughts about someone other than their husband or partner.

The study revealed 27 per cent dream of seducing a male friend while 23 per cent fantasise about an encounter with a stranger.  45 per cent of women said they had raunchy thoughts about men other than their husband or boyfriend with 19 per cent regularly fantasising about a male colleague while between the sheets with their current partner.

Food also looms large on the menu of sexual fantasies, with 40 percent of those questioned confirming chocolate as the favourite fantasy, followed by whipped cream.  And up there on the 'indulgenceometer' are chips - beating caviar!

Firemen top our list of the professional group most women would like to be seduced by with musicians, pilots and doctors also popular.

Despite stereotypes about men having a one track mind, the research confirms that women too have an active imagination. The vast majority of Brits think it's perfectly healthy for women to fantasise about sex and a surprising finding of the survey, from McCain Simply Gorgeous Chips,  is that Gordon Ramsay and Simon Cowell are considered more appealing than Jude Law and Tom Cruise! - though favourites like George Clooney, Brad Pitt and David Beckham do top the list.

Essentially, whether we're thinking about people in uniform, sexy celebrities, rude food or even our own partners, it seems we just can't stop our active imaginations.

The poll also revealed that when it comes to fantasies about celebrities, Simon Cowell makes it to the Top Ten ahead of Jude Law and Tom Cruise
