i have eaten all over the world and can say with sincerity that the moonfish ranks up with the best in the business. good friendly service and reasonable prices. the sea bass was without doubt the best i have ever tasted.followed by a scrumdiddliumtious creme brulee , i felt like i had died and gone to foodie heaven.
When we happened upon this cafe one night, we couldn't believe our luck! There was an informal, relaxed atmoshere, excellent music (Hotel Costes) in the back ground and a welcoming waitress. We had only popped out for a light supper but quickly found ourselves excited with the menu and before we knew it we had devoured a three course meal and guzzled a rather excellent bottle of house red. We were delighted that the bill was by no means unreasonable and have returned on many an occasion since. Part of me doesnt want to tell too many people but on the other hand I just cant help it becoming my number one suggestion of places to eat in Aberdeen!
This meal was as outrageous in its invention as it was basic in its inception . To begin with me and my long term partner Duane Pipe had a flaggen of Mahoney's cider. This helped us wash down a tray of cod heads in a white lightening cider jus. We followed this by having a smoked budgie on a bed of birdseed and crushed digestive pomp. Duane was in sheer heaven with each passing mouthful of the succulent crunch of digestive. He opined that despite the birdseed becoming stuck in his dentures he could quite easily have seconds. For our desert our waiter brought hard boiled eggs coated in cinnamon. Unusual - yes. Devine -most certainly. At 7 pounds a head it wasnt cheap. However, all things considering I would certainly say we received value for money.
